Opera St. Moritz
“It’s all opera” at the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz
There, where once, in 1878, the first electric light of Switzerland lightened, guests can experience a top class opera event at 1856 meters above sea level.
Since 2006, the “Opera St. Moritz” as organizer is regularly holding an opera festival with a term of, usually, 8 performances. All performances are taking place in the famous Corviglia ball room which offers space for about 300 spectators, and is equipped with magnificent floor-to-ceiling mirrors and precious crystal chandeliers, changing this room into a brilliant opera stage.
The operatic works of the most famous composers of the time such as Mozart, Verdi, Rossini or Donazetti are being performed. Well-known international symphony orchestras, excellent soloists and choirs coming from different parts of Europe, impress by not only their brilliant voices, but also by their beautiful imaginative costumes, flanked by a fascinating scenery and illumination.
Along with the opera a delicious opera menu is served, which, depending on the show-times, is offered before or after the performance, pampering the opera guest with culinary delights.
A special social highlight during the opera series is, since recently, the opera ball, which is held in the ballroom west. The architectonical specialty of this room is its beautiful wooden coffered ceiling. During the festive gala dinner, the actors and actresses of the opera mingle amongst guests and give some impressive foretaste of their vocal skills – a marvellous atmosphere.
Last but not least, the uniqueness of the Engadine mountains and lakes make each of the opera evenings unforgettable.
