Hotel direction: Jenny and Heinz E. Hunkeler
After successfully managing Pontresina’s Grand Hotel Kronenhof, Jenny and Heinz E. Hunkeler this spring accepted a new challenge, as managers of the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz. Both members of the couple graduated with BAs in International Hotel Management from the Ecole hotêlière Lausanne and are vastly and internationally experienced in the luxury hotel industry. In 2008, business magazine Bilanz awarded the couple the title of Hoteliers of the Year.
A native of St. Moritz, Heinz E. Hunkeler not only has deep personal roots in the Engadine but also a connection with the Kulm Hotel and its history: His father, Heinz Hunkeler, was a highly successful previous manager of the Kulm Hotel. Heinz E. Hunkeler is himself a graduate of the internationally renowned Lyceum Alpinum, in Zuoz, Switzerland. His professional experience in Switzerland’s luxury establishments ranges from Interlaken’s Victoria-Jungfrau to the Montreux Palace, and Des Bergues Hotel in Geneva. Other career waystations include the Mandarin Oriental Hotel du Rhône in Geneva, the George V in Paris and The Pierre in New York. From 2005 to 2006 he was deputy manager at Munich’s Kempinski Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten.
A native of Geneva, Ms Hunkeler’s career includes stints at New York’s Peninsula Hotel, the Emerald Beach Resort in the Virgin Islands and the Ramada Park Hotel in Geneva. She then joined the marketing department of Hotel Königshof in Munich, part of the Geisal Privathotels Group. She is a trained wellness and spa specialists, as witnessed in the innovative Kulm Spa St. Moritz, recently remodelled under Ms Hunkeler’s co-directorship.
