The legendary Maloja wind allows superb sailing and windsurfing regattas in the height of summer, even when the wind has dropped in other places. Seasonal highlights are the Swiss, European and also some World Championships, which are held on the lakes of Silvaplana and St. Moritz.
Located at an altitude of 1,800 m, the lakes of the Upper Engadine offer wonderful wind conditions. During the morning the Maloja wind reaches speeds of 3-6 Beaufort and only dies down at sunset. The annual St. Moritz Match Race has been held on Lake St. Moritz since 2003 and attracts the international sailing elite.
