Windsurfing & Kiting
Since the early 1970s, Engadine surfers have been aware that the legendary Maloja wind always springs up with the precision of a Swiss watch when the effects of its last arrival are slowly subsiding. Thus, it is recommended that beginners make their first surfing attempts in the gentle morning breeze.
The Lake Silvaplana is the national mecca for wind and kite surfers. And rightly so: the reliable Maloja wind means that surfing conditions in the Upper Engadine are almost always ideal. A fact that world-record champion and surfing legend Björn Dunkerbeck noted and which led him to make his home in Silvaplana. In addition to the wind, the exceptional Engadine natural world and facilities speak in favour of Silvaplana as a surf spot: a camp site, kiting school, Mulets Sport Centre and a windsurfing centre are all nearby.
