MAYA REPELE: PRESERVING TRADITION WITH A MODERN PATTERN
Discover the hidden hand-weaving workshop and the 95 years old tradition.

Maya Repele
Maya Repele is the President of the Foundation Board a.i., and the Executive Director of the Tessanda – the traditional hand-weaving workshop founded in 1928 in Sta. Maria in Val Müstair by local women. Today, Tessanda is one of only three remaining professional handloom weavers in Switzerland and an essential cultural and historical asset of the Engadin region.
"Preserving the rare craft of handweaving and securing high-quality jobs for women - my heart's desire."
Discover a tradition of 95 years...
Maya Repele will guide you through the workshop, and the 95-year-old process, where the loud sounds set the rhythm of the handwork on the looms. It rattles, crashes and creaks. Here time is disrupted – the old wooden looms, some of which are more than 100 years old, and the rhythmic sound of the traditional hand-weaving workshop meet the modern perspective, not only visually through the finished products but also in the foundations’ structure, direction and philosophy: authentic craftsmanship with fine expertise and absolute attention to detail. The craft combines modern pattern design, high-quality products, sustainability and tradition.
