On the Art of Shaping Ice

A film by Fabian Gattlen on the making of the Olympia Bob Run, capturing the meticulous handwork required to rebuild the Olympia Bob Run in St. Moritz each year.

“Tradition isn’t merely connected to the track’s vast history, but rather, carved into each curve.”

In his short film, Fabian Gattlen captures the meticulous handwork behind rebuilding the Olympia Bob Run in St. Moritz each year.

We witness a precise, physical process, narrated by Alfred Nischler, who has been part of the team shaping the track since 1980.

He speaks of experience, intuition, and the wish to simply freeze the run and unpack it again in the following year. Yet the rhythm remains unchanged: built each winter in a collective effort, the run melts back into nature come spring.
